About Crop PDF
Crop PDF is useful when scanned pages include wide white borders, printer marks, hole-punch space, or extra margins around the real content. Set top, right, bottom, and left margins in millimeters, then download a tighter copy without uploading the file.
This cropper changes the page CropBox instead of rendering each PDF page into an image. That matters: text usually stays selectable, vector artwork stays sharp, and the output size should normally stay close to the source file instead of ballooning like a rasterized scan.
In a July 2026 Chrome on Windows 11 test, cropping a 126-page scanned PDF by 5 mm on all four sides changed the file from 11 MB to 10.9 MB, with no visible processing issue reported. This is a single browser sample, not a guarantee for every PDF, but it shows the expected behavior of a CropBox-based crop.
| Question | Short answer |
|---|---|
| Will cropping permanently delete hidden content? | No. It changes what is visible, not a forensic redaction layer. |
| Will the file size increase a lot? | Usually no, because pages are not converted to images. |
| Best use case | Removing white borders from scans before printing, sharing, or resizing. |
| Sample test result | 11 MB / 126 pages -> 10.9 MB after 5 mm margins on Chrome, Windows 11. |
Cropping is not secure redaction. Content outside the visible crop area may still exist inside the PDF file, so do not use cropping to hide names, account numbers, signatures, or private notes. For privacy cleanup, start with PDF Privacy Inspector and Remove PDF Metadata. Treat true redaction as a separate audited workflow.
A practical scan cleanup flow is: crop the white border, use Resize PDF to normalize to A4 or Letter, use Remove Blank Pages if the scan has separator sheets, then run PDF Upload Ready Checker before submitting the file to a portal.
